Baggage Claim Comes in at #4 In Opening Weekend

This weekend was opening for the new movie Baggage Claim. The book turned filmed had an all star cast (Paula Patton, Jill Scott, Boris Kodjoe, Trey Songz, Terrence J, Lala Anthony, Derek Luke, Djimon Hounsou, Taye Diggs, etc) that has been working hard over the past few months to promote the film.

In it's opening weekend, Baggage Claim came in at #4 at the box opening, bringing in $9million and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 coming in at #1 with $35million. From the previews and heavy promotion, it was expected that Baggage Claim would have ranked at #1 this past weekend. For the budget ($8.5 million), the film didn't do horrible in it's opening weekend but will be considered a box office flop most likely. Unfortunately, black directed and casted films often get the short end of the stick in theaters and aren't taken as serious as movies with higher budgets or a different cast type. We have to continue to support our black films!
