He's also landed acting roles in a few films such as "We The Party." It took time for YG's presence to really break outside of California, but once it did, it stuck. YG inked a deal with Def Jam and most recently announced joining Young Jeezy's CTE World. After linking up with longtime friend DJ Mustard, the two have developed a formula to not only to stamp West Coast hip-hop, but make YG easily one of the hottest rappers out now.
He's experiencing major success with the first single "My Nigga" from his debut album, while his song "Left, Right" and feature on Yo Gotti's "Act Right" are still heating up the streets. We caught up with YG and DJ Mustard while on a promo run in Atlanta for YG's new debut album My Krazy Life. He took a few minutes to chop it up with FARRINHEIT 411 to give a few details on his upcoming album, working with Drake, DJ Mustard, and Young Jeezy.
The
album My Krazy Life, is coming out
March 18th. Tell us what we can expect.
YG:You can expect greatness; expect a lot of good music, a story line, good production. When you hear the album, you’re gonna feel like you’re from LA.
Tell me about your chemistry with DJ Mustard in the studio. How do you two come together to make
hits?
YG: We start from scratch. I come with an idea and he makes the beat, and from there it’s a wrap.
You’re with CTE now, working with Jeezy,
how’s it been combining that Atlanta and Cali sound?
YG: It’s been great, you feel me? We haven’t been doing anything but moving up. So it’s been good, shout out to my n*gga Jeezy!
The first single off the album “My n*gga”
recently went platinum, when you made “My n*gga” did you expect it to be as big
as it’s been?
YG: Nah. We knew it was gonna be a big street record but, we didn’t know it was gonna end up on the radio, so when it got on the radio it was a surprise to everybody.
You have another single that’s blowing up
in the streets right now, “Who Do You Love” with Drake. What was the like
working with him?
YG: It was cool! I sent the record over to Drake and he sent it back. We just shot the video, he was at the video f**cking with me so he’s cool. MKL GO GET IT!
You can
expect features on MKL from Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, DJ Mustard, Young Jeezy, Rich Homie
Quan, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. YG’s debut album releasing
under Def Jam/CTE World is set to drop in stores and on iTunes March 18th.
