Kennedy Brown is a 15-year-old girl from Houston, TX that has been diagnosed with brain cancer. She has been battling brain cancer for more than two years now. Due to the severity of Kennedy's cancer she has been forced to stop attending school. This week, friends from her high school Carnegie Vanguard High School put together a prom just for her. Her classmates wanted the freshman student to get the most out of her high school experience despite her medical condition.
The students put the special prom together in one weekend. They were able to get her favorite basketball team Houston Rocket's mascot Clutch to attend. Along with the prom, Kennedy also given a graduation ceremony in the school's theater. Carnegie Vanguard principal stated that Kennedy had outstanding grades and was proud to award her a diploma. One of her biggest surprises was another gift given to her by her classmates, a backdrop of Drake who is her favorite rapper. The backdrop was created for her to take a picture in front of.
Informed of Kennedy's story, people all over Houston wanted to help grant her one wish, to meet Drake. Her friends, family and classmates were able to get the community involved through social media. They began the hash tag #DrakeForKen, tweeting Drake in hopes that he would respond and reach out to Kennedy. Her story began to gain national attention, and the Houston community got word that Drake heard of Kennedy's story and would be willing to make a special video for her. Kennedy Brown's wish came true today! Instead of a video, Drake granted her wish by surprising her at home in Houston.
Social media has become a powerful way that has made lots of dreams come true, especially for individuals with situations such as Kennedy Brown. We must commend the students at Carnegie Vanguard High School for caring for their fellow classmate and going out of their way to make her feel like the best girl in the world! It's amazing seeing the community coming together for one person and making a difference. This is the way the world is supposed to be!
