Last night in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the Heat
began with a lead of 26-6 and it seemed like they had shut the Spurs down. Once
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich called a timeout in the first quarter, he rallied his troops for a new plan, the war heated up and the Spurs weren't backing
down; assuming the lead and maintaining until the very last minute. At the end
of regulation, the Spurs won their fifth NBA title with the final score of
104-87.
James led the Heat in points, rebounds, and
assists, but his work alone was not enough. The Heat trio was no match for the
power trio of Ginobili, Parker, and Duncan -- who together has the most playoff
wins in history (117). The San Antonio trio, paired with the help of rising star Kawhi
Leonard, dominated the series 4-1. Kawhi was also named the NBA
Finals MVP, and at 22 he is the youngest since teammate Tim Duncan to be named.
Ultimately, this was a game full of fire from both
teams with the outcome unknown. The Heat congratulated the new champions and
headed back home while the Spurs enjoyed post victory press and lots of
celebration. It still seems like the players are in disbelief with all they have accomplished, one player even tweeting:
Couldnt sleep last night!! Still cant believe what we achieved!! GoSpursGo pic.twitter.com/uVE336HZ4l
