[Watch] From Veteran to Rookie, Derek Fisher NY Knicks Head Coach

After searching high and low for a new head coach, it seems as if the New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with former Oklahoma City Thunder point guard and NBA veteran, Derek Fisher. It was announced early this morning that the two parties agreed to a five year, 25 million dollar deal with the Knicks on Monday morning.

For those of you who don't know, Phil Jackson, who became NY Knicks President in March 2014, was the former coach of Derek Fisher when he was with the Los Angeles Lakers. The two developed a strong relationship over the years and Jackson has even said that his on-court leadership could translate to coaching success. He went on to say, "[Fisher] a person that's on my list of guys that could be very good candidates for this job." It is believed that the relationship the two have was a defining factor for hiring Fisher, as well as his exceptional leadership skills.

Fisher hasn't formerly announced his retirement from playing, but the 39-year-old has been President of the National Basketball Players Association and will retire with 10,713 career regular season points. He also has five NBA championship rings, from playing with the Lakers and then head coach Phil Jackson. For more insight on what it means to have Fisher as the new head coach, see the video below.

Fisher, who only made $4.73 million combined in the last three seasons with OKC and made $5 million only four times in the 18 years he's played for the league, makes many skeptical if he's worth the $25 million deal. The addition of Fisher to the Knicks family has caused a few controversies. Do you think Fisher is ready to take on #Knickstape or should the NY Knicks have gone with fan favorites Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy?
