“No justice, no peace” and #BlackLivesMatter are
connected to national movements that have been taking place around the country stemming from the countless, injustice
deaths of African Americans. Nate
Parker, an Academy Award nominee, activist, and filmmaker, teamed up with
Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Amy Berg, to create a documentary based off of the problems African American communities are facing in light of Ferguson that continue to
be a repeat in history, what people in black communities’ views are, and
their opinions on how the country can find a solution.
The documentary will include actual interviews,
footage of scenes from the aftermath of Ferguson and other historic events,
and news pieces. Nate Parker’s goal is to create a platform for voices to be heard on how to solve the dehumanization
of African American males. The intended
goal of creating such a documentary is costly, so Nate Parker created a
campaign on November 25th, 2014 to raise $25,000 for his
project. Parker was able to raise a
little over his goal on January 25th, 2015. At this moment in time, there is no set date
for the documentary and it is being put on hold due to numerous of factors,
but it is in the works.
With the problems the African American community is
facing, what is your view about the issues we face now and how do you think it can it be
solved?
