Bad News: Kyrie Irving, point guard for Cleveland Cavaliers, fractured his left knee cap from a contact play in Game 1 against Golden State Warriors, which resulted in him on leave for the NBA finals :
With just two minutes left in overtime in Game 1, According to General Manager David Griffin: "Kyrie [went]to cut, putting his foot to the left. He's been in that position many times before and he gets out of it. It's how he pops up and goes the other direction that makes him so incredibly hard to guard because he can change directions in a phone booth. What he did there was go down and then we he was going to get out if it; he gets hit from the side so he couldn't get out of it. It just put more torque on the bone. It was really a unique play."
Unfortunately in this play, Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, ended up accidentally kneeing Irving. Irving underwent surgery to repair the fracture and will be out for the rest of the season. Prior to the surgery, Irving had gradually been healing from tendinitis in the same knee.
Not to worry Irving, the Cavs took a W against the Warrior's in last night's game. They will be waiting for you when you come back in better shape next season!
