Kendrick Lamar Enacts Getting Shot By The Police In "Alright" Video

Kendrick Lamar Alright
Kendrick Lamar is certainly better than "Alright" as a young Hip-Hop king and so is everything he does. His sophomore album To Pimp A Butterfly, is a fusion of classic jazz, funk, R&B and Hip-Hop. The album touched on a series of topics from internal struggles to being a black man in America. TPAB is hands down brutally honest and 100% unapologetic.

After making comments late last year regarding racism, black on black crime and police brutality, Kendrick's comments didn't seem to settle with people too well. After time to reflect on blaming blacks for the way we are treated by other races (predominately white) Kendrick seems to be eating his words. In his passionate-aggressive single "The Blacker The Berry," Lamar opens with "I'm the biggest hypocrite in 2015."

In recent interviews K.Dot admits his responsiblity as an artist in this time. Conscious that the youth pays more attention to rap lyrics than school text and praises their favorite artist more than their spiritual leader, Kendrick feels an obligation to educate the people and speak on real issues.

His newest radio released single "Alright" is nothing short of a song with a catchy hook that can be played on your way to the club, but it's lyrics cut deeper. The video artistically combines culture with society's views of "us" while being harassed and shot by the police which is captured as a "m.A.A.d city." Kendrick attempted to flip the script on police, pimping them out in the opening scene. The hometown hero flies from LA to the Bay, raps on top of light post, traffic lights and shows some love to the hood. "Alright" is one of Kendrick Lamar's best visuals to date, mixing his symbolic dark moments with positive images. The closing of the video defines not only its concept, but a greater message for all people; we're all human and that nobody’s untouchable.

Director Colin Tilley sat down with MTV where explained the concept and symbolism of the video
