Samuel DuBose's Killer Officer Tensing Indicted for Murder

Another day, another gone life becomes a national hashtag. As the country still hashtags #SandraBland and countless other names, a new name this week is came to life (ironic), Samuel DuBose. Early Wednesday (7/29) afternoon, a Hamilton County jury made the decision to indict officer Ray Tensing for the murder of Samuel DuBose. Forty-three year old DuBose was killed on July 19th by University of Cincinnati police officer Tensing. DuBose was pulled over for an apparent missing front license plate which resulted in his death. Tensing is also facing a voluntary manslaughter charge as well.

According to Tensing, he feared for his life after believing DuBose was going to run over him with his car, shooting him once in the head. Tensing claimed his arm was stuck in DuBose car where dragged. The officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting which was released following the jury's decision. The footage remained in authorities possession until now. Authorities fear the release of the graphic murder footage will cause outrage among citizens leading potentially to riots. The University of Cincinnati canceled classes today prior to the announcement of the jury's decision.  If convicted, Tensing is facing 15 years to life in prison.

Since the shooting, the officer has been on paid administrative leave. This is the first time the city of Cincinnati has charged an officer with murder while on duty. Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters said "he purposely killed him." The prosecutor also shared that DuBose did nothing wrong and was not violent at all during the traffic stop. Tensing is set to be arrested today. Sam DuBose was laid to rest on Tuesday, being described as a funny guy that everyone loved.
