And The Winner Is...The 2016 Grammy Nominations Rolled In Big This Year

The 2016 Grammy Nominations is the trending topic this week. 2015 was a pretty big year in music for all genres. The nominations didn’t come as much of a surprise to many because of their musical success throughout the year. There were a few musicians who collected a chunk of nominations, however. Kendrick Lamar held the most Grammy nominations whopping number of eleven, while both Taylor Swift and The Weekend held seven nominations each.

Lamar is currently on his Kunta’s Groove Session Tour for his March 15, 2015 release of To Pimp a Butterfly. The album was categorized as a mix between Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz and Rap. His amazing work most certainly made an impression on his fans, which helped Lamar sell about 324,000 copies. His top single from the album include “i” and "Alright." K. Dot is now a 20-time Grammy nominated artist. He earned his first two Grammys at the 2015 ceremony.

Grammy winner Taylor Swift also held some hit singles upon releasing her fifth studio album entitled 1989 on October 27, 2014. The singles were “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Shake It Off," and “Blank Space.”  The title of her fifth studio album was inspired by 1980s Pop music, which just so happens to be Swift’s birth year as well. 1989 did quite well in sales too. The album sold 5.36 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Seven time nominee The Weekend had one of the biggest breakout successful years. August 28, 2015, he released his second studio album Beauty Behind the Madness. This album is categorized as a mix between contemporary Alternative R&B and Pop. It has sold 711,000 copies in the U.S as of November 2015. He began accumulating huge mainstream success following the release of his single “Earned It” (Fifty Shades of Grey).Some of his other major hit singles this year include  “Often”, “The Hills”, “Can’t Feel My Face”, “In the Night.”There are even speculations that he will be releasing new singles on his current tour.

One of the most important and talked about categories are the Hip-Hop categories. Historically, Hip-Hop has always struggled to have proper representation not only in the live ceremony but the nomination categories. Hip-Hop weighed heavy this year in categories such as "Album of The Year," "Song of The Year," and "Best Pop Duo Performance." J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Fetty Wap, Big Sean, Trinidad James (Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk"), and Drake are flowing in and out of this year's nominations...and we aren't mad.
