If you are connected with me on any of my social networks
you may have seen that I went to New York last week for Super Bowl XLVIII Weekend.
I am a sport, fan football being my favorite and I’ve never been in a city that has
hosted the Super Bowl so I was super excited. This was also my first time in
the "Big Apple" so I really was stoked. When I started FARRINHEIT 411, I knew
that covering major events outside of Atlanta was my goal. Another one of my goals was
to tap more into sporting events. When I say FARRINHEIT 411 is “The HOTTEST in
Entertainment” I mean everything from music, entertainment, movies, television,
events, and sports.
As a blogger, it’s really no fun to blog about things you
see from other sites or something you don’t have a first-hand account on, or
some type of connection with. Writing a blog post is always more pleasurable
when it’s your own original content and it comes from the heart. At first, I planned to
go to New York and attend all of the high end events with all of the celebrities
and do my usually press coverage (all the stuff you would see all over television and the internet
anyway.) Then I thought, it would be cool
to post just me enjoying the festivities in New York. As a blogger/free-lance
journalist you spend all day and night searching for that exclusive, that inspiration for a post.
As entertainment
bloggers, our blogs are surrounded around celebrities and popular culture being
Urban or Hollywood. I love blogging about celebs, music and
getting “the 411” on all things entertainment, but I do live outside of
blogging. As a blogger I don’t want to be disconnected with my readers, especially not in my early stages of blogging. I’m not
a blogger that hides behind my laptop, I’m out and visible so I will share my
experiences with you all time to time. I think that’s important.
Going to New York for me was more than just getting “the
411” on the hottest in entertainment, but it was also to get the experience.
New York is one of those unique places you go to reap all of the experiences it
has to offer. The feeling I got flying into Manhattan seeing the lights, the Empire
State Building, Times Square, and the TRAFFIC all I could do was sing “NEWWWW
YORRRKK!” For those few minutes I felt like I made it. I live for city life,
big lights, and scenery. After being reminded a few weeks ago about how much
I’ve accomplished in such a short time, that feeling I got flying into New York
for the first time was priceless. MY blogging journey is far from easy, and I’m
finding myself as I go along. Once you’ve committed yourself as a blogger,
that’s it! It becomes your life no matter the focus of your blog. Knowing that I've prayed and focused so hard on beginning a career before even graduating from college, it's a blessing seeing myself come up, even on the days I doubt myself.
When I landed in New York I just wanted to explore. I would be lying if I said deep down I didn't want to be at the NFL Hall of
Fame or the Beats by Dre Party or the Direct TV Party with Jay Z & Beyoncé
or Diddy’s Party or the REVOLT Concert with Drake or any of the other events
happening that weekend, but how many times do similar events like this
happen? How many times can you experience something for the FIRST time?
I felt so at peace
and so free to be in the middle of Manhattan with thousands of people with my
family and my camera. I didn’t even have the urge to shop! I didn’t give up on
my grind one bit, rather I was motivated more. Finding your inspiration doesn't always come from going to fancy events or the people, but the simple things right in front of you. YI’m confident that I’ll be
around in the business for many years so sometimes missing a weekend of events
sucks, but you pray for more opportunities to live to see in the future.
It was
exciting seeing everyone throughout the city revved up for the big game. I got
some good New York pizza, cheese cake, and bunch of other stuff that left my
tummy upset haha! I stayed in Queens, not too far from Queens Blvd. (for you Coming
to America fans). I traveled the Metro like mostly everyone else and
walked more than I have since I was a freshman in college, and it was cold! It was special for
me to take time to enjoy New York because it was also my younger brothers first
time in New York and they were just as excited as me.
I spent most of the time on Super Bowl Boulevard in Times
Square with other football fans, where I had access to the major sports
broadcastings like Fox Sports, ESPN, and NFL Network. Thousands of fans lined
up to see their favorite athletes who stopped by the live broadcastings on
Super Bowl Boulevard, trying to get an autograph. I saw so many interesting things in Times Square, as
you can image. All fun and laughs! I was on social media very little last
weekend, too busy having fun. I thought I’d give you the 411 on my trip all in
one post! Even though I did not attend the actual Super Bowl, I was routing for
the Seahawks. Go Hawks!
When you have a
vision and you’re living your dreams, you’re the only one who can see them so live
them for YOU and no one else! It’s
not about where everyone else is but where YOU are!
Blessings,
Farrin Hymon, FARRINHEIT 411
