Kanye West Speaks on 10th Year Anniversary of The College Droupout

Today marks the 10th Year Anniversary since Kanye West became one of the biggest names in music. On February 10, 2004, Kanye West dropped his first studio album The College Dropout. Released under Jay Z and Dame Dash's Roc-A-Fella Records, Kanye showed very early in his career he would build his own musical dynasty.

The Chicago rapper brought a special unique touch to Hip-Hop, something that no one had seen before. He wasn't the typical street gangsta rapper, who rhymed about the hardships of the hood and selling drugs. He also wasn't a rapper that made dance songs. Kanye West was rhymed about civil consciousness, bringing a refreshing intellectual perspective, timeless, and rebellious approach to Hip-Hop. He was a college dropout; a clean cut guy who rocked Louis Vitton backpacks, Ralph Lauren Polo's, and Jordan's.

Today Kanye humbly took to Twitter today to speak on his album debut's 10th anniversary:
"Ten years ago today we finally released what had been my life's work up to that point: The College Dropout. I say "finally" because it was a long road, a constant struggle, and a true labor of love, to not only convince my peers and the public that I could be an artist, but to actually get that art out for the world to hear. I am extremely grateful to each and every person along that road who helped, lent an ear, lent their voice, gave of their heart to that project, and to all the projects that followed, and are to come. I am honored and humbled by my fans, for the unwavering support and love over the past ten years. I wake up every day trying to give something back to you that you can rock to and be proud of. Ten years later I am still the same kid from Chicago, still dreaming out loud, still banging on the door. The doors may be heavier, but I promise you WE WILL BREAK THEM."
From his first single "Through the Wire," Kanye had people hooked with the Chaka Khan sample and his story of over coming the adversy of almost loosing his life in a terrible car accident, while his mouth was litereally wired shut.

His singles "Slow Jams" and "All Falls Down" continued to combine timeless R&B sounds with Hip-Hop. If that wasn't enough to grab the attention of the people, he definetly had every one listening when he dropped "Jesus Walks." "Jesus Walks" is still one of the greatest talked about songs. Kanye's lyricism and album arrangement declared Kanye not only a musical genius, but true artist.

He spoke and enlightened about topics such as racism, religion, education, and every day life. The album had a number of features from Jay Z, Ludacris, Talib Kweli, Twista, Syleena Johnson, Nas, Mos Def, Jamie Fox.

The College Dropout sold 3.1 million albums and landed Kanye West a Grammy for "Best Rap Album." From then on was history. All six of Kanye West's albums have been successful. Kanye West continues to be a rebellious artist who continues to push Hip-Hop culture in collaboration with art and style. As a lyricist, musician, visionary, artist, Kanye is hands down in the conversation for being one of the greatest.

Congrats on 10 years strong in the game! #DefJam30
