The Verdict on the Micheal Dunn Trial Declared

BREAKING NEWS Atlanta, GA-- In the case of the Michael Dunn murder trial, Michael Dunn has been found guilty on 4 out of 5 counts of second-degree attempted murder charges.

November 23, 2012, 17-year old Jordan Davis was in a car with three other teenagers at a gas station when words were exchanged with Michael Dunn, supposedly over their loud music in the car. According to Michael Dunn, one of the teenagers flashed a gun on him, which resulted in Dunn pulling out his shot gun in the day light and opening fire in Jacksonville, Florida. He fired 10 shots into the SUV that the teenage boys were in.

For the past 450 days, the nation has been following the story of the murder of Jordan Davis. Today twelve jurors convicted 47-year old Michael Dunn on 4 out of 5 counts of second-degree attempted murder. The decision of the fifth count, first-degree murder could not be met by the jury meaning that they will retry the case.

Michael Dunn claimed self-defense in this case. He stated that even though a physical altercation did not break out, he felt as if though his life was in danger and he did not want to wait to be assaulted before he was able to protect himself.  Even though Dunn denied that racism had anything to do with him opening fire on the teenagers, his wordings while on the stand seemed to be deeply racist. When describing the music they were listening to in the SUV, he described it as "rap crap." He is facing up to 75years in prison. He will spend the remainder of his life in prison.

The current issue of the verdict is the question of WHY was it an issue of convicting Michael Dunn on the first-degree murder charge, and why was he only convicted on the other four charges, three being second degree attempted murder. Keep in mind that Dunn fled the scene after shooting at the vehicle and did not call 911. His current charges are listed below:

1 Count of First Degree Murder-Mistrial
3 Counts of Second Degree Attempted Murder - Guilty (60 years)
1 Count of Shooting a Missile- Guilty (15 years)

Jordan Davis' parents just held a brief press conference to thank everyone for their support, prayers, and the jury in the trail. Davis' father ended his statement by stating "My son will not be another day at the office." Tomorrow would have been Jordan's 19th birthday. While the verdict is bittersweet, justice still has not completely been severed!
