Mary J. Blige 'What's The 411' Turns 22!

Today marks 22 years since Mary J. Blige claimed her throne as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. Her debut album What's The 411? was released July 28, 1992. The album was released under Uptown Records where Andre Harrell served as the CEO at the time. Mary worked with new producer then and longtime friend now Puff Daddy on her debut album.

What's The 411? was more than just any R&B album. Mary J. Blige broke on the scene as a young women from New York with a Hip-Hop style and a classic R&B soul. At the time, there was no other artist out like Mary. She sung about everything from growing pains to love to just being a woman. What's The 411? opened the door of women performing 90's new jack swing combining Hip-Hop & R&B. The album included hit singles such as "Real Love," "Reminisce," "You Remind Me," and "Sweet Thing."

Not only did Mary J have the slick dance moves, baseball caps and a powerful voice, but she also spit a few rhymes! Mary J. Blige is most famously known for her television premiere on YO! MTV Raps performing her single "What's the 411." She immediately earned her respect from the boys and became the voice of many women. What's The 411? went triple platinum selling over 3.4million albums, placing Mary J. Blige as comparisons to some of her idols Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, and Tina Turner.

Since What's The 411? Mary J. Blige has gone to release 10 additional studio albums. Mary J.
