Daytime television is becoming very diverse. Black women are not just representatives for black women, but are expressing their many different personalities. Black women on daytime television are giving young black girls something positive to look up to.
In the past, talk shows starring Black women have been viewed as representatives for how Black women think. Talk shows like The Real, The Queen Latifah Show, Just KeKe and The Wendy Williams Show, have shown Black women as individuals.
KeKe Palmer is a young woman of many talents, singing, dancing, acting, and fashion designing. Palmer currently holds the title as the youngest talk show host in television history at the age of 20. Just KeKe premiered June 30, 2014 on BET. Palmer's show focuses on fashion, pop culture, relationships, social issues and she is focused on reaching out and relating to her generation. Palmer has recently become the first African-American to act as Cinderella on Broadway.
Talk shows are not the only aspect of television where Black women are excelling. Television shows with strong Black female leads have become a hit to young Black girls everywhere.
Kerry Washington stars as a strong Black woman named Olivia Pope on ABC's hit TV series, Scandal. Many young Black girls have expressed their love for the strong female lead, as an inspiration. Olivia Pope is a crisis manager with he own firm, Olivia Pope & Associates. Washington plays a character who fixes problems and crises, protect and guard public images and reputations, and solve certain crimes in her clients' interest.
