Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown are two names that have
been in the media for quite some time now.
Most of the time their names are related to a concept along the lines of
protest, community unity, or justice, but this time their names are being used
in a different way, with fashion.
On September 11, Shiona Turini, fashion market director at Cosmopolitan Magazine, was seen wearing
a long white t-shirt with black writing.
At the top of the shirt it read “THEY
HAVE NAMES” then proceeded to list the names of Michael Brown, Trayvon
Martin, Eric Garner, and many other African American men that lost their lives,
due to being shot and killed. As a way
of showing her support, Turini also posted the picture up on her Instagram page
with a thank you shout out and inspirational hashtags. Although she was attending New York Fashion
Week, her simple graphic tee was the center of attention.
