You may not know exactly who Mila J is yet, but you will very soon. Although Mila J is a name that many are still trying to get familiar with, she is no new chick to the music/entertainment industry. She began her days as a dancer during her childhood, a member of the group Gyrl (under the management of Chris Stokes) and a solo career. Many know Mila J for being the older sister of popular songstress Jhené Aiko, but don't expect the bloodline to define the style of music these sisters produce individually.
Although Mila and Jhené are both singers, Mila has spoken on the different sound they both bring to the industry. While Jhené's style of R&B is hippie-ish, very soft, slow, innocent almost, Mila has a edgier, Hip-Hop/R&B, upbeat, more daring vibe about her. She's admitted that there's no competition between her and her little sister. Interestingly, both sisters will drop their first major projects this month.
After being off the scene for a few years, Mila J reintroduced herself to the world with her single "Smoke, Drink, Break-Up" earlier this year producing a heavy buzz for her. Despite her being away from the music industry for a few years, Mila J has remained to have a loyal fan base that has followed her from the beginning. The Motown artist has collaborated with artist this year such as Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Mustard, Trey Songz, Problem and B.O.B. Her cool laid back personality brings a uniqueness about her that makes you want to know more and anticipation for her music.
Mila J is currently prepping to release her EP M.I.L.A: Made In Los Angeles. As a proud native of Los Angeles, California Mila J made the clever move of turning her name into an acronym to show her LA pride. Mila J is also one of BET Music Matter's artist, performing at this year's BET Experience. We had a chance to preview her EP M.I.L.A earlier this summer and will say she definitely has a banger on her hands! M.I.L.A features Problem, Ty Dolla $ign and B.O.B. Mila J recently dropped a creative lyric video of her DJ Mustard-produced track "My Main" ft. Ty Dolla $ign. The lyric video consisted of Instagram pictures of her fans and their closest friend.
M.I.L.A: Made In Los Angeles will be released under Universal Music Group/Motown Records September 30th. Check out her fan lyric video for "My Main" below:
