The resemblance in style and attitude that parallels between Jimi Hendrix and someone decades after his time is amazing. For this reason, he was sought by John Ridley to play the late great guitarist Jimi Hendrix himself. During the press release Andre 3000 talked about his constant research aided him in channeling his inner Hendrix, which he claims he was hard work and still didn't master. This is shown in his statement saying "Jimi is one of the most comfortable guitarist in the world... Jimi never looked like he was working, it always looked like an extra hand..." Along with learning how to play the guitar, an even bigger challenge presented itself, as Jimi Hendrix played with his left hand, Andre 3000 had to adapt to that also.
Andre Benjamin also says he enjoyed not only channeling the master guitarist but also being able to capture his aura as a human, as he says in the following statement"We make them bigger than life, what resonates with a human is seeing the human side of another human... knowing that Hendrix was nervous and that it took a minute for him to get comfortable/"
Being that I've never heard much about Jimi Hendrix except with playing Guitar Hero, and about him being the token black guitarist in the hippie era. I'm extremely excited about the film and I cannot wait to see it!
