The New England Patriots claimed the win from NFL's Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks on February 1st. A couple of highlights from this year's Super Bowl included Idina Menzel's national anthem performance, the famous 30-second ads in between commercials (Fact: Advertisers paid NBC $4.5 million for their ads to be displayed during the Super Bowl, which was viewed by 114 million viewers nationwide, and a half-time show performance by Katy Perry with appearances from Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott.
Missy Elliott has been in the music business for over two decades. She is known for creating hits such as "Work It" and "Lose Control" and also for writing and producing hits for top hip hop and R&B artists such as the late Aaliyah, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan, Faith Evans, etc. It's safe to say she might have stole the spotlight off of Katy, but with that being said, it was a surprise to find out that most of the younger viewers were unfamiliar with her work and confused Missy as a new and upcoming artist!
Missy Elliott's track record includes winning Grammys, BET Awards, MTV Awards, American Music Awards, etc. After this year's Super Bowl, Missy Elliott is definitely winning more than awards. Here are the four reasons how she is:
- The youth thinks she's a hot new artist. When Missy stepped on the stage to perform with Katy Perry, some of the younger viewers were unaware of her musical magnitude. Below is an example of what was said by a viewer which reflected the attitude of most, young viewers who did not know who Missy Elliott was:
- iTunes sales sky rocketed right after her performance. A lot of viewers went to iTunes to download Missy's music. As a result, her downloads and albums posted a sales gain of 996 % according to Nielsen Music.
- Missy Elliott looked good! Back in the day, Missy Elliott's appearance was the complete opposite of how she looked on Sunday. Missy had a Thyroid disease which contributed to her weight problem in the past. During her performance, it can be noted that she lost 70 pounds over the years and continues to shed weight! Missy slayed the stage and her appearance was EVERYTHING!
- Her legacy still lives on whether she's active in the industry or is behind the scenes. Missy Elliott has been on hiatus and made a quick comeback from her performance on the Super Bowl. The reactions she received from viewers made her emotional and she responded with a tweet stating "I did not know how much I was missed".
Will that be the last the world hears from Missy or will he be making a comeback?
