What was significant about February 4th, 2015? It was the first Wednesday of February. What's so special about that? Every first Wednesday in the month of February is known as the National Signing Day. National Signing Day is a day where high school seniors sign a binding national letter of intent to play college football at a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association. This specific day was a proud moment for all families and friends who knew of a person who was signing. On this specific day, a certain dad named Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Dogg, was proud to share this moment with his son, Cordell Broadus, who decided to commit to UCLA.
Snoop Dogg aka Uncle Snoop has made a great and influential impact to the rap community. Snoop started off in the music industry by being introduced to Dr. Dre by fellow west coast rapper and friend, Warren G. Throughout the years, some of his albums such as Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told, and No Limit Top Dogg won top spots on Billboard. Throughout his career, Snoop Dogg also ventured into the acting and television world. In 2007, viewers are introduced to his life and family on his reality television show called Snoop Dogg's Father Hood. Viewers also got a glimpse of Snoop as a coach for his football team. His purpose for starting the Snoop Youth Football League stemmed from his background; growing up in the West Coast was not easy for Snoop, especially living in a rough neighborhood where drugs and violence riddle the streets. He created the league to help boys escape their rough lives and neighborhoods, and involve them into something positive.
Throughout the show's history, it was evident that Cordell, Snoop's youngest son, had a future in football. Fast forward to eight years later, Cordell Broadus, who is a four-star Under Armour All-American receiver who ranked as the 130th position in ESPN's top 300 players, committed to UCLA on Wednesday. Cordell stated in an interview with ESPN that "[he] had the offer since [his]nine-grade year, so [he] had a great connection with the coaches. [he] just want to play in front of [his] family and keep ballin' out on the field and get a great degree."
Cordell is the first in his family to attend college and Snoop could not be more proud of his son. He stated in an interview with ESPN that "It's been awesome just watching him step into manhood and make a decision that he's comfortable with".
