Rihanna Becomes First Woman of Color in History to Front a Dior Campaign


"I love your Linda Farrow, I adore your Dior..." Barbados-native Rihanna has come a long way from her entrance into the music industry in 2005, gradually progressing in the industry topping charts and producing hits, and becoming a notable "fashion killa" in the world along the way.  The world has taken notice of her talents and beauty, much so that Dior, a French luxury goods company, chose Rihanna to star in their new ad campaign, which is the fourth installment of their Secret Garden series.  This power move makes Rihanna the first woman of color to front a campaign for one of the fashion world's top and well respected, power fashion house.


Steven Klein, Director of the Dior campaign film, stated in a release that Rihanna was the perfect choice.  He also added that "Rihanna's mystery and intrigue combined with her razor sharp looks and sensibility, are the essential, perfect elements to create the stage for Secret Garden". The essence of the theme, Secret Gardens, and the setting for the campaign, the Palace of Versailles in France, creates an essence of natural beauty and an exquisite appeal. Rihanna expressed that being chosen to front the Dior cover meant a lot to everything she represents such as her identity, her culture, and for all young girls of color. Dior's and Rihanna's social media accounts have been releasing teaser videos and photos for the campaign, which is set to be released on Monday, May 18th. Did you know that the campaign ad also features a single off of her forthcoming album called "Only If For A Night"? The album does not have a set release date, but fan's excitement has been building based off the singles Rihanna has released so far and her current venture in the fashion world!
