Plies' New Social Wave Has Everyone Running, But Do It With Caution

In 2007, Florida rapper Plies broke on the scene with his hit "Shawty," and instantly became the man in Hip-Hop. Over the course of three fairly consistent years, Plies delivered a series of #1 records, but like many rappers managed to fall off. During a time people weren't really checking for Plies' music, he was able to somewhat to keep his name relevant through social media. Tweeting some of the most ignorant, ridiculous and hilarious things, Plies managed to get thousands of retweets and spark a twitter beef here and there. He discovered he could really lure people in with Instagram.

Plies uploads multiple videos daily consisting of sitting in a car with a cup in hand, saying the wildest stuff you've ever heard. Without a question Plies is a certified clown, but we love it. Plies has scored himself 2.9million followers in a little over a year. Even if you're not apart of the 2.9million people that follow Plies on Instagram, you've seen his videos somewhere on social media. He turned Saturday into "Satday," has the everyone say "bihhh," and now everyone is running off on the plug...twice!

It doesn't take the youth long to find potential in a movement and run with it. All around fans are uploading videos of themselves, their parents, even grandparents running off on the plug. If your favorite collegiate or professional athlete isn't dabbing right now, he's running off on the plug on the sidelines, the locker room or in the end zone. So you ask, who is the plug and where did this movement start? On Plies' most recent project "Ain't No Mixtape Bih 2," one line from the single "Ritz Carlton" became catchy, once the Florida MC posted a silly clip from the music video:
"Ran off on the plug twice, he steady calling I ain't calling bike."
As funny as it is seeing grandmothers running off on the plug, one who is unfamiliar who the plug is and why its really not funny to run off on him. Urban culture has a way of creating slang for almost anyone and anything. "The Plug" is your personnel who has exclusive access to things such as concert/sports tickets, sneakers, clothes, cars, food stamps, movies, and even drugs. Most likely in Plies' case the plug he was referring his connect to purchase illegal substances, so you can imagine the danger of running away from him without paying and twice!

The running motion with the song is super funny and fun. As influential Hip-Hop culture is, I hope no one gets the guts to go run off on whatever plug they have! See some of the videos of everyone running off below:
