Last week, I had the chance to attend an event at Suite Lounge in Atlanta, Georgia. The Black Celebrity Giving held the Second Annual "Giving is Good" Awards to honor several different organizations from the Atlanta community who were inspired by a few and gave back to many.
The event was hosted by Centric TV’s Ramona Debreaux and celebrated the work of each foundation. A range of local Atalanta celebs and organizations were honored and each were hand-picked by BCG founder Jasmine Crowe.
Jasmine Crowe, founder of Black Celebrity Giving, opened the event with giving a brief background about BCG and a few inspiring words to the attendees. Her website, highlights celebrities who are giving back to the community locally, nationally, or internationally. She also developed the "Giving Boutique" which provides those who are less fortunate with the ultimate shopping experience! Donated clothes are washed, retagged, hung, and placed in nice shopping bags and given to families in need.
The setting at Suite Lounge was very intimate and the room was filled with live music from Elevate the Quest. It quickly got emotional as every foundation accepted their awards and gave acceptance speeches. There was plenty of laughter, tears, and hugs passed around the entire night. There was even a pledge that everyone agreed to take, to go out and emit change. The night concluded with Jasmine saying a few words,
My ultimate goal is for people to work together. This is not a competition. [...] One day I want all of our non profits to not exist. The goal is social change.
