While some of us watched ESPN yesterday, others watched
as Team USA played Serbia to see who would be named the 2014 FIBA Basketball
World Cup Champions. For the first time in history the FIBA Basketball World
Cup was held in Madrid, Spain, and took place from August 30 to September 14. The Basketball World Cup takes place every 4
years and alternates with the Olympics.
During the Basketball World Cup, Team USA kept a
clean record, going 9-0 in the series, including defeating Serbia in yesterday’s
game. Kyrie Irving proved to be the “real”
MVP in the championship game by scoring 26 point in the first half, and with
James Harden following his lead by scoring 23 points, Team USA ended the game
with a final score of 129-92. If that’s not
enough reason to celebrate, the victory over Serbia extended the United States
winning streak to 63 games. Claiming the
title for the second time in a row, Team USA deserves to celebrate their gold
medals with a little Shmoney Dance.
