Broncos Player, Antonio Smith, Faced With Child Abuse

Antonio Smith was a fifth-round draft choice by the Arizona Cardinals in 2004, where he spent his first five seasons. On April 2, Smith signed a one year, $2 million deal with the Denver Bronceos as a defensive end.

In November, a complaint was made against Smith, which was "sexual in nature." The sheriff's office forwarded the findings to the county District Attorney's Office in February.

Smith has not been arrested, nor have any charges been filed. The allegation was first reported by the website TMZ on Thursday morning.

"Last night, we became aware for the first time of an allegation involving Antonio Smith," team spokesman Patrick Smyth said in a statement. "We are now in the process of gathering more information."

Fort Bend County (Texas) District Attorney John Healey Jr. told KUSA-TV in Denver that his office is working with the local sheriff's office to investigate an allegation.

"At this particular point anything in reference to Mr. Smith is just that — an allegation," Healey Jr. told KUSA.
